How to Change Your Banking Details With SASSA (SRD R370 and Other Grants)

In short: To change the account that receives your SRD R370, use srd.sassa.gov.za with your ID number and the PIN texted to your registered cellphone. The account must be in your name. Permanent grants such as the R2,400 old age grant are usually changed at a SASSA office. SASSA verifies every change, so allow at least one payment cycle.

How do I change my banking details for the SRD R370 grant?

The change is made on SASSA's SRD site, under the banking change option. SASSA asks for your 13-digit ID number and sends a PIN to the cellphone number on your application. Once the PIN is in, you give the bank name, the full account number, the account type and the branch code, and wait for the confirmation message. Type srd.sassa.gov.za yourself. The agency's own statement is blunt about what is at stake: without completed verification "the application will be unsuccessful and no grant will be paid".

Because the PIN goes to your registered number, that number has to work. If it does not, start with how to change your SASSA phone number. The grant is approved until 31 March 2027, and the November 2026 payment dates are in our news note.

Is the route the same for every grant?

No. The table shows where each kind of change is made, based on what SASSA and independent guides describe.

Which accounts does SASSA accept?

Only an account in your own name. The SASSA statement of 6 November 2025 says that when the banking details "do not belong to the applicant the system will not verify the payment". Joint, business and relatives' accounts are reported as rejected, and so are closed or frozen ones. Savings and cheque accounts are both used, but pick the type your bank shows.

Take the branch code from your own app or card letter. The universal codes of the big banks are in the table. A single wrong digit in the account number is the usual reason a check fails.

How long does verification take?

SASSA states only that once banking details are verified and confirmed, the grant is paid from the next pay run. Guides advise one or two payment cycles, and the status page may show a pending bank message meanwhile.

Timing matters too. In the same warning SASSA said a change made close to its processing dates may miss the next payment, and that frequent changes cause delays. Change early in the month, and keep the old account open until the first payment has arrived in the new one. Nobody at SASSA asks for your SMS PIN, and a lender has no right to your SASSA card or PIN, as SASSA grant loans explains. To vet a provider before you sign, use how to check NCR registration and the lender directory.

Questions about SASSA banking details

Can I use my mother's bank account for my grant?

No. In November 2025 SASSA said that when the banking details do not belong to the applicant, the system will not verify the payment.

Why does my SRD status say bank details are pending?

Usually the new account is still being checked. Give it a payment cycle, because a second change in the meantime can restart the check.
