SASSA moves November grant payments earlier: older persons paid on 30 October

In short: SASSA has moved November 2026 grant payments forward because of the local government elections on 4 November. Older persons' grants are paid on Friday 30 October, disability grants on Monday 2 November and children's grants on Tuesday 3 November. Grants under review are paid on Thursday 5 November. National Treasury approved the new dates.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has brought November grant payments forward so that pay days do not clash with the local government elections on Wednesday 4 November 2026. The revised schedule was announced on 15 October in a statement carried by SAnews and approved by National Treasury. Dates reported earlier in October, which started on 3 November, no longer apply.

What are the SASSA payment dates for November 2026?

Pensioners are paid a few days earlier than usual, and the main run is over before people go to vote.

GrantPayment date
Older personsFriday 30 October 2026
DisabilityMonday 2 November 2026
Children's grantsTuesday 3 November 2026
Grants under reviewThursday 5 November 2026

That Thursday payment comes with a condition. If SASSA sent you a review notice, reply to it and go to the appointment, or the money can be held back.

Why did SASSA change the dates?

Wednesday 4 November is a public holiday, declared by President Ramaphosa for the vote. Lots of schools will be voting stations, and special voting runs on 2 and 3 November. Had the pay days stayed in that week, pension queues and voter queues would have formed in the same halls and streets. According to the statement, SASSA spoke to stakeholders first and Treasury approved the change.

How much is each grant in November 2026?

Amounts have not changed for November. They are the 2026/27 values from the February 2026 Budget, with one step for the foster child grant in October.

GrantMonthly amount
Older personsR2,400
DisabilityR2,400
Care dependencyR2,400
War veteransR2,420
Foster child (from October 2026)R1,300
Child supportR580
Grant-in-aidR580
Social Relief of Distress (SRD)R370

When is the SRD R370 grant paid in November?

The election calendar leaves SRD out. That grant has never had a fixed day in the first week: it is paid after each month's approval run, which is why two people in the same street can get their R370 days apart. To see your own date, go to srd.sassa.gov.za and enter your ID number and the cellphone number you applied with. The R370 itself is safe until the end of March 2027, when the current extension runs out; Enoch Godongwana announced it in the February Budget.

Do I have to withdraw my grant on the payment day?

There is an old worry in pay-day queues that money not drawn on the first day "goes back" to SASSA. It doesn't. Once the grant is paid it stays on your SASSA card or in your bank account until you draw it, whether that is Friday afternoon or the Thursday after the vote. With the pension landing on a Friday this time, Monday morning may be quieter at the tills, although disability grants are paid that same day. Keep in mind that this is the November pension paid early: the next one is due in the first week of December, about five weeks later.

How do I check my payment safely?

Phone first. The SASSA call centre is 0800 60 10 11 and the call is free, also from a cellphone. Your bank app or an ATM slip will show whether the money is in. In its statement SASSA asked beneficiaries to use its own channels and not to pitch up at offices without a reason, so a trip to the local office is the last resort, not the first.

Messages offering a "SASSA loan" turn up on WhatsApp and SMS, and they are fake: SASSA repeated in September that it doesn't lend money or sell financial products. It allows one deduction from a grant, a funeral policy premium the beneficiary signed for, up to 10% of the payment. Spot a different debit on your statement? SMS 34548 or tell the SASSA office. And if you need a loan to get to December, pick a lender registered with the National Credit Regulator; each profile in our lender directory carries its NCR number.
