Tools for Investors and Traders:
Best Crypto App for iOS and Android

The cryptocurrency market matures day by day, despite the debates of blockchain enthusiasts, some of which argue that the industry is moving in the wrong direction. However, digital assets proceed with development and growth of their markets. Perhaps, only few people believe in “Tothemoons” today, but the high volatility of digital currencies is still one of the main characteristics of this market. Also, appetite for investment risks and opportunities for quick money continue to fuel interest.

Competent and attentive investors always search for useful methods and tools to help in managing their assets. One of the most important issues in controlling investment is the instant access to data. Currently, the most relevant tool is a smartphone with applications.

Zaim.com editors and analysts examined various tools for crypto investors found at the iOs and Android application markets. The team checked functionality, usability, accessibility and other qualities, which in total can be defined as “utility”. There were lots of solutions found in the application stores, but the majority of the apps concentrate on 1-2 tasks. Practically, the main convenience of an app for a trader or investor lies in its versatility, the instant access to all the necessary data without switching between different apps or widgets.

Crypto Mass Adoption

The app was released in 2015, a couple of years before the massive «hype» on the crypto market. Initially, it was called the Coin Market App. The number of downloads of the Android version exceeds 500,000, and the number of reviews is also considerable — more than 23,000. Rating for Android is 4.5, and for iOs is 4.8. It should also be noted that the difference in functionality between the two platforms is significant, but first things first.

In addition to the basic features mentioned, CMA tries to diversify the perception of the crypto market. So, there are such features as Graveyard (information about «dead» cryptocurrencies), Heroes / Zeroes (a selection of coins which demonstrate the most significant rise / fall, where the period can be adjusted).

It is worth noting widgets which can be configured and displayed on the main screen of the smartphone. Thus, users can monitor the parameters that are important for the trader without having to open the app every 10-15 minutes. The function is available only for Android users.

The news feature is not detailed. The application parses the news and presents it in a simple feed, which can not be adjusted. Also, it is worth noting the great disadvantage of the iOs version — it lacks a portfolio function, which forces users to download Blockfolio or Coin Profit additionally, or choose a completely different application. It would be a great idea for the developers to add this feature for Apple users as soon as possible.
Delta

It is considered to be a well-known application. However, the most useful features are available only in the paid version. The app has over 500,000 installations and nearly 15,000 reviews on the Play Market, with a rating of 4.5. On the App Store, the rating is 4.8. Delta has a well-developed functionality for working with portfolios. However, when reading the latest reviews on the markets, it becomes noticeable that many users are unsatisfied with the latest redesign of the interface, which made the usability of the app more complicated.

As mentioned before, the most useful portfolio features are available only for a fee. It all concerns the integration with exchanges or wallets, analytics, as well as synchronization with different devices. The payment for access to the PRO version is available in two options, a monthly or yearly subscription. Users can test the PRO version in a 7-day trial.

The news section is quite simple; the feeds are divided into three categories: «All news», «Popular», as well as the news of the coins that the user has in the portfolio. It is a convenient solution: each news is tagged with the coin referred to in the text.

Despite the limitations imposed by the paid options, Delta can still be considered the most advanced portfolio tracker with the features of convenient alert settings and signals.
Crypto News

The name of the application reflects the essence of the content, but that’s not all it can offer. Crypto News has been on the market for a long time, and is constantly updated. Recently, the application has been upgraded, becoming a more functional tool for the cryptocurrency holders.

It should be noted that Crypto News has the widest functionality to set up the information field: users can create personal news feeds by source, track the rates of only the coins of interest, and at the same time track the data on specific exchanges.

Speaking about newsfeed: it is the most detailed screen. There are many sources, articles and news on one topic which are collected in one box, there is also a popularity index. It could have been perfect if the news was tagged with a coin, as in Delta, but perhaps this feature will be implemented by developers in the upcoming updates. So far, users can separately track BTC and ETH only. It is noteworthy that there are sections for video and for Twitter posts.

The portfolio is quite simple, and more than five coins can be added only in the PRO version. Alas, the wallet connection function is not provided yet. In general, it is a good solution for holders of a limited number of coins, those who are not active daily traders. Alert settings are quite diverse, and will help in controlling the portfolio.

The application has the opportunity to become the most useful crypto holder tool if the portfolio features will continue to develop. So far, users have to combine Crypto News and Blockfolio, for example.
The Crypto App

«The #1 crypto tool worldwide» — this is the way the application positions itself on the website. But is it really? 500,000 downloads of the Android version and 35,000+ reviews on the Play Market look solid, but there are only 49 reviews on the App Store. A somewhat strange gap. The iOs version is rated positively (4.9), but the latest reviews on the Play Market are full of complaints about troubleshooting and delays in crypto rates.

The application is good in terms of design, convenience and options for crypto market monitoring, but one of the key details is missing: portfolio. Alas, but this absence significantly diminishes the chances of The Crypto App to be recognized as «the #1 tool» for crypto enthusiasts.

The summary of market statistics is very convenient, users can choose from an extensive list of fiat currencies to convert and monitor. The list shows the current price, changes in % and real equivalent, as well as the capitalization and turnover of each coin. Amidst charts and prices in the detailed cryptocurrency screen, users can open tabs with data for each exchange where the coin is traded, as well as monitor a feed of the latest news about the coin. Users can configure alerts for each coin and add it to the list of favorites.

News and Twitter are separated and presented as the simplest feed. However, it is noteworthy that the news in the feed is provided in six languages, but sorting by category is available only on Android.

The additional features: a currency converter, a widget and a «Market Analysis» section, which provides a summary for various data, and also displays the top of growing coins. It’s worth noting another remarkable feature, the offer to buy cryptocurrency through Thecrypto.app website, which is most likely conceived by the developers as a key conversion goal of the app as a whole.
Coin Stats

The application’s website claims that more than 500,000 users downloaded it, but the Play Market records 100,000. Perhaps, the developers totalled the numbers with the iOs version. The Android rating is 4.6, and the iOs version got 4.7, based on a vast number of almost 39,500 reviews.

In general, the application is relevant to all the parameters: portfolio management is convenient, users can quickly switch to cryptocurrency market monitoring. A specific cryptocurrency card is very detailed, with many useful actions, including adding a transaction to the portfolio or making a purchase from a partner of the app. Also, users can configure alerts right there.

Speaking of alerts, they can be variously customized, but some parameters are available only for the PRO version. Alas, but the trial period is available for only three days, which slightly overshadows the impression. The PRO version costs $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year. Additionally, it unlocks several useful functions for maintaining a portfolio, also disabling advertising.

The news feed in Coin Stats is quite original and is segmented according to such criteria as «Handpicked», «Trending», «Latest», as well as «Bullish / Bearish» news. Users can vote for the news, which adds a bit of interactivity. Also, the feed can be conveniently customized, leaving only those sources that users consider important.

There is also one unique feature of the app worth noting. It is called Coin Insights, partially available in the free version and partially in PRO. In fact, this is the aggregated statistics from the app itself, thanks to which any user can get useful information about a coin.
Crypto Pro

Perhaps we could have excluded the Crypto Pro app from the list since this application does not support Android yet. However, the quality of its development and adaptability for various Apple devices are executed remarkably — so we hope that the version of the app for the Play Market will be of such high quality as well. So far, the app has about 1,000 reviews on the App Store, with an overall rating of 4.7.

It is worth noting that Crypto Pro has a very rich functionality when it comes to portfolio management and coin tracking. Users can create and manage several portfolios with customizable alerts. The separate coin screen contains the standard data with charts and trading data for the selected period. Users can instantly read the news related to the specific coin. An interesting feature is the submenu where users can use the calculator, set up alerts, add a coin to the portfolio, create an address book or set up Siri.

Cryptocurrencies can be viewed both in the general list and in the special section «Favorites». Crypto Pro has a large database regarding exchanges: users can monitor the trading of a particular pair on a particular exchange.

Still, the news feed currently is a little disappointing: it allows only two news modes, «Popular» and «Latest». A selection of news sources also leaves much to be desired. The availability to customize feed is limited: users can only choose a coin for a list of publications relevant to it.

The premium options in the application look lucrative. Traders can import portfolio by API, but that’s not all: technical analysis, unlimited alerts, as well as real-time prices are available. Users can choose from three options: a monthly payment, half a year or a yearly payment.
Coin Market Cap

The application comes from that very global ranking system. For obvious reasons, it puts emphasis on the main product — data from the cryptocurrency market. However, the app’s ratings are not so good: 4.2 on the Play Market, 4.7 points on the App Store. The complaints largely concern the portfolio function. Apparently, “Portfolio” was added to the application as an additional option, and, for now, it is rather primitive and this could be the reason for negative feedback.

Unlike most competitors, CoinMarketCap offers users to register, and this feature can scare away a certain category of crypto enthusiasts who prefer to keep anonymity on every level possible. Obviously, the main screen is dedicated to the rating of coins and exchanges, which are divided by tabs. All data that is present and configured on the original website, is in the application, respectively. And yes — ads are a bit annoying.

As for the news, the CMC has the «Discover» tab, which also is divided into such screens as «Latest news», «Blog», as well as top gainers/losers and information about recently added coins. The news is slightly unusual: first, those that are trending are displayed, followed by news about coins that are relevant to the contents of the user's portfolio. Unfortunately, a choice of news sources that can be configured is not so vivid.

In general, the CoinMarketCap application is not particularly rich in features, but it is nice in terms of design and the data availability. Let us all remember that the vast majority of applications use data from CMC, and do not conceal this fact. However, the application of Coin Market Cap currently can not be called a full-fledged and versatile tool for crypto investors and traders.
Investing Crypto

Investing.com, the popular web source, could not pass by the crypto industry, and launched a special application. It was downloaded over 500,000 times on the Play Market, with an aggregate rating of 4.5. The same rating comes on the AppStore.

The first thing that catches an eye after downloading «Investing Crypto» is the real-time updates of crypto rates, and this is probably the key advantage of the app. It is a unique feature, provided that the vast majority of sites, apps, and widgets use the CoinMarketCap service. The list of cryptocurrencies is provided with options for filtering, sorting and searching.

In a separate coin card, the functionality is quite diverse. There is general information with the option for detailing; tabs with prices on exchanges; technical analysis and coin news. An important interactive feature is the ability to vote for trends and leave comments.

Still, the news feed is primitive: it is not possible to configure it, and only simple search is implemented.

The portfolio, in turn, has its advantages: users can create several portfolios, as well as add coin purchases on specific exchanges to a given time range, which is incredibly convenient. Users can set up alerts for each position in the portfolio or coin of interest with a very wide range of options.

The additional functions come with a separate screen for a currency converter, an ICO calendar (which many applications have dismissed), a tab with cryptocurrency pairs, as well as an Analysis and Opinion feeds where users can read expert publications on the relevant topics.

The price for such generous functionality is simple: authorization and overloading volumes of advertising. Often it is simply impossible to use the app, since users accidentally tap a banner. At the same time, there is no paid subscription that turns off such an advertising bacchanalia. In addition, after registration, users get overwhelmed by calls from telemarketers. All this overshadows the overall positive impression of using Investing Crypto.

Definitely, there is a need for a single application, mainly a wallet for cryptocurrency investors. Speaking about a list of functions, then in the first place there should be the actual structure and current value of the portfolio. It should be possible to view the portfolio structure, for example, in the form of a pie chart. In addition, the value of the portfolio should be counted in real time depending on the placed purchase orders, not on the latest transactions.

Market data is in second place. It would be nice if the app displayed graphics, elements of technical analysis, though this is not easy in the phone format. Perhaps, some technical signals or recommendations should be integrated as a paid feature — this requires a team of analysts.

The news feed can be put in third place, it may be worthwhile to send alerts about the news from the currencies that are in the portfolio. Alerts should be a paid feature, also including the approaching or overcoming resistance — this also applies to technical analysis as a paid feature of such an app. I.e. alerts should warn the investor of some important events, and even perform automated actions like purchase/sale.

Thinking about the "perfect" app, it should provide security and liquidity. It means the use of biometric data, better secured by some government service or a large corporation such as IBM or Microsoft, which work hard on this. Liquidity is one of the most important problems of the crypto industry. The ability to quickly sell, including stop-loss or take-profit, is also worth to be a paid feature.

In fact, the crypto app should work as a reliable broker who takes a commission for services, the size of which depends on the quality of services, as well as the marketing strategy of the intermediary services provider. Therefore, an application that combines the above-mentioned functions will attract attention and will bring a lot of money to its creators.
Ilya Buturlin Scientific Director of "Chapai Hub" Business Incubator of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation

The priority order of functions: portfolio, notification system, market data, news feed.

A portfolio is about trader’s coins — if the price falls, then notifications must come in a timely manner. News does not constitute a strong influence in the decision of the crypto holder.

The perfect app is where you can keep the portfolio, where it will be under your control, not under a centralized institution. Such an app should have the possibility of exchanging currency for another currency, for a stablecoin, the ability to withdraw would be a great option. A perfect application should make it possible to pay with. It would be also great to add the possibility of arbitration transactions.

Currently, there is no need to pay for applications, since all of them have similar functionality in this segment. If you pay for the application, then it should be really a unique one.
Arthur Weisberg Head of Europe Institutional Sales at Apifiny

In my opinion, market data is the most important factor for any crypto trader. It must be accurate and offer both historical data and real-time data. It is impossible to create a good portfolio and manage it with unreliable market data, so I put the portfolio function in second place in importance.

From the point of view of the cryptocurrency market, the ideal offer would be a platform that allows users to access the entire market in a «one-stop» mode (single window). I wouldn’t like to check the exchanges personally to find the best market price. I want an offer that will allow me to observe prices from the entire market in just one window. This would give me confidence that I am buying or selling my asset at the best possible price in the market. Currently, I need to check out several different exchanges where I have an account in order to understand what is the best price for me.

As for paid versions — I hate pop-ups and thus pay to get an ad-free version. For developers who use such annoying marketing tactics to make a profit, it would be nice to remember about the usability and convenience of the app first.
Cynthia Huang CEO and founder of Altcoin Fantasy
The essential functions for a crypto app targeted at a crypto holder or trader are:
  • news feed of coins you're holding or want news updates on,
  • notifications of coins you're holding or want updates on,
  • portfolio tracking,
  • market data (pricing, volume, market cap),
  • description of the coin,
  • news feed within each coin page,
  • the best place to buy this coin from and volume available at that price,
  • ability to make trades directly on the app,
  • ability to practice trades through a simulated environment,
  • follow influencers on the app through social media or other channels.

News and portfolio tracking are both tied together and important in an app, as you need to be able to see what you're holding and what news is happening related to these coins and the overall crypto market.

The perfect application should be an all-in-one to reduce the number of apps required and so that the user experience is easy and without friction. There are no ideal solutions right now and users have to download and use several apps to be able to achieve everything they want to.

Paid features have to be valuable enough for users to justify the cost and need to be something that continues to provide value on an ongoing basis. Currently, there are very few apps that retail crypto users are willing to pay for, especially when the market is down. I think having one app that combines all the functionality that a user needs would be the solution to this, as users don't want to have to pay for multiple apps that they may only occasionally use.
Evan Kennedy active cryptocurrency user/trader

Each cryptocurrency investor has their own unique style of investing. They do however fall into groupings based on their behaviors.

You have certain individuals who do not care about the asset, they want to day-trade and scalp small percentages in any way possible. You then have swing traders, these are investors who will take positions for short to mid-term time periods. A couple weeks, maybe a couple of months. Lastly, there are long term investors. People who slowly but surely add to their holdings over time. They hope to purchase when assets are cheap, but all in all, they are consistently adding to their positions over time. They are making educated decisions based on the purpose and function of the asset they are investing in. They go and pick long-term winners.

The functionality for each of these groups varies greatly. An actual portfolio tool doesn't mean much to a day trader, where a long-term holder is more likely to utilize that as the main function each day checking in and prices.

Newsfeeds and market data is important for day traders in search of market volume and volatility: they want increased volatility which allows for quick buys and sells, and the opportunity of scraping a few percentages in a day. This news and market data is where notifications come in.

Deeper research tools are needed for swing and long-term investors where they can dive in and understand more about the underlying fundamentals and communities that are being built around each cryptocurrency project.

Thus, I don't believe there is an order for any of the above mentioned.
Edith Muthoni personal finance coach

The bare minimum for crypto apps include such essential features as an elaborate newsfeed, instantaneous notification system, market data (crypto tracking and coin watch tools), and a portfolio monitoring system.

A comprehensive newsfeed goes a long way in helping a crypto trader stay on top of their game. In this highly volatile market, the last thing you need is a high impact event catching you and your trades off guard and sinking you into a loss so deep that you need months to recover. The crypto tracker tool should send out instantaneous alerts about the listing of new coins with reputable exchanges.

The coin watch feature should be as comprehensive as possible and one: it should make it possible for one to isolate their preferred coin and monitor its progress on an individualized page or chart away from all other coins. It should have market climber and price watch alerts that show the trader the coin's market cap performances and the price changes for top coins.

Given the diverse trading strategies and investment preferences of individual crypto traders, I feel like most trading apps have not been able to capture everyone’s needs into one. Each app has its own strength areas, and the trick here is finding two or three good apps that complement each other.

With so many and highly comprehensive crypto apps out here, I haven’t felt the urge to subscribe to paid crypto apps. But if I were to find one app that’s able to compact user-friendliness, ease of trading, security, and comprehensive market watch features, I wouldn’t hesitate to pay a reasonable subscription fee. Such an app eliminates the need to keep two or three apps and that convenience is worth paying for.
Conclusion
Zaim.com tried to briefly convey the impression of using apps that were created as useful tools for cryptocurrency holders and traders. We assume that someone will not agree with the presented arguments. Of course, users have their own preference criteria in apps, besides certain obvious features and usability. We hope that this review was useful for our readers, and it is quite possible that this overview will be of good service, if someone decides to enter the turbulent territory of the crypto market.
